Ph.D. Admission:

 

Full-time Ph.D. students for 2025/26, 2026/27 Intake

Research areas:

smart biopolymers and green nanotechnology, photo/electro catalysis and sustainable energy, fiber spinning and textile finishing, digital fashion and AI wearables  

Group Requirements:

1. Passionate on research, open to teamwork. 

2. Candidates in the background of Material Chemistry, Polymer Science, Textile Engineering, Biology & Microbes, Robotics & AI, Sustainable Design, or related fields are all welcome. 

3. Priority will be given to applicants with strong publication records and high GPA transcripts from outstanding universities.   

 

Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for:  
– Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 
– PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme (PPPFS) 

Monthly stipend: ~28,100 HKD with conference travel allowance, tuition fee waiver, guaranteed first-year on-campus housing, cash award, etc.  

General scholarships:  
– Postgraduate Studentships (Monthly stipend: HK$19,000+)

Tuition fees & other charges: tuition HK$44,500 / annum, etc  

Basic requirements by Graduate School:
1. Normally hold:

  • A Master’s degree; OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours (or equivalent qualification), conferred by a recognized university.

2. English language skill: 

  • An overall score of at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); OR 

  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 or above for the Internet-based test; OR   

  • obtained a degree from a university where English was the medium of instruction.

Postdoc Positions
 

Calling applicants for 2025/26 Postdoc Matching Fund Scheme.

The scheme supports a period of 24 months in terms of full-time appointment as a postdoctoral fellow (PDF) at PolyU. For each awardee, he or she will receive a salary of HK$31,000 / month as well as a conference and research-related travel allowance. 

Candidacy requirements:
1. Must have received a doctoral degree or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution no more than five years before the year of application (regardless of date of degree conferral) or expect to receive a doctoral degree within the first six months of the date of application submission.  
2. Appointed postdocs are required to commence their employment in PolyU within six months of the announcement of the results. 

3. Priority will be given to the applicants with strong publication record and potential leadership in relevant fields, who are expected to have independent research capacity, open mind to new ideas and demands, promising contribution to teamwork, and consistent career target.

1. Full CV:  

A PDF applicant should submit a CV summarizing his/her education and work experiences as well as academic achievements; the CV should not be longer than four pages excluding the publication list. In the CV, the PDF applicant should select up to five of his/her most representative research outputs and provide a full list of publications (with journal papers listed separately from other publications/other research output items) for the consideration of the University. For journal articles, both the impact factor and the ranking of each journal in the specific discipline should be provided. Accepted journal articles may also be included with the letters of unconditional acceptance attached. If the PDF applicant is not the first or second author of a journal paper listed in the CV, explanations for how he/she is the main contributor should be given.

• The following candidates will NOT be considered:

- Candidates working as Postdoctoral Fellow under the Hong Kong Scholars Program; and

- Postdocs supported by Research Talent Hub for projects funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF).

• According to the Guidebook for Entry for Employment as Professionals in Hong Kong issued by the Immigration Department of HKSAR, the General Employment Policy does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of), Nepal, and Vietnam. As such, PDF candidates whose nationality falls into any of the aforesaid areas may be rejected in their applications for work visas in Hong Kong.
